Willem Jansz
Willem Jansz was a famous explore who is the first person on record to have stepped foot in Australia. He was born in 1570 which was over 400 years ago.
He was a Dutch navigator and colonial governor.
He went on many voyages include one on a boat called the Duyfken which means little dove. On this voyage he stumbled upon Australia thinking that it was New Guinea and fought with some of the local Aboriginals. He returned to Indonesia to report his findings.
